The Kirschenmann Vineyard, located in Lodi on the eastern side of the Mokelumne River AVA, is owned and farmed by Turley’s winemaker Tegan Passalacqua. The ungrafted vines were planted in 1915 in the silica-rich sandy soils. Despite the higher temperatures that characterize Lodi, the head-trained, dry-farmed vines are kept cool by the river’s water and the delta breezes. Upon harvest, the grapes and pressed and undergo native yeast fermentation. The wine is then aged in 80% used oak, 20% of which is new. 80% of the oak is French and the remainder is American.
Aromatically this wine is heavily perfumed with a combination of bright red fruits such as cherries as well as crunchy stone fruits such as white peaches. On the palate there is a balancing acidity with notes of blood oranges, velvety tannins, and a chalky finish
